Melton Apple Day is collaborating with Melton BID and will have a number of stalls available to local businesses and we wondered if you would be interested in joining us. The event runs from 11-4, we have an outdoor events licence, including the sale of alcohol, there is no electricity available (although we may be able to use some solar-powered batteries) but otherwise the only limitation is your imagination.
Melton Apple day is an annual event (now in its fifth year) run every autumn by the Melton Green Transition group. We are a community-driven initiative in Melton Mowbray, dedicated to fostering a low carbon, healthier future through sustainable practices and local engagement. We help improve a number of green spaces in the town, help with ethical events, such as Great Big Green Week, and run the Annual Apple Day events in the Country Park.
On the day, we ask local people to bring along any surplus apples they may have in their gardens and the basic aim is that we run a number of presses to turn these apples into gorgeous fresh apple juice. Not only does this prevent waste and inspire people to use their apples in the future but is a great way of introducing kids to healthy drinks, made locally.
But the day is increasingly about a lot more than that and has a huge community element. Not only are we based right next to the Sunny Skies Cafe in the park but we offer various kids activities, entertainment for adults in the form of Morris Dancers and folk music, a stall selling homemade apple-themed products, an apple ID expert and much more.
Even if you are not able to attend as a business, it’s a great day out for the family and you don’t have to bring apples, we always have plenty of apple juice although we would be grateful if you could bring some clean bottles to put it in!!
