Melton BID works to improve the look, feel and experience of the town centre, helping to create a safer, more welcoming and more attractive environment for businesses, residents and visitors.
How we make Melton more attractive
Improving the Street Scene
Our work supports both the day-to-day operation of the town and its long-term vibrancy, from improving communication and safety to enhancing the appearance of key streets and public spaces.
By investing in visible improvements and practical support, Melton BID helps make the town centre a more attractive, better-connected and more resilient place to do business.
PubWatch
Melton BID launched PubWatch in 2025 to help strengthen and support a safer night-time economy.
Working with 20 licensed premises, Melton Police and Melton Borough Council, the initiative improves communication, encourages partnership working and helps create a more secure evening environment.
The scheme is now nationally recognised, demonstrating Melton’s commitment to supporting responsible, well-connected and safer town centre venues.
New Business Support
Melton BID supports businesses in the early stages of set-up and planning, helping turn ideas into viable town centre ventures.
From initial conversations through to business planning, cash flow considerations and lease negotiations, we provide guidance to help businesses make informed decisions.
This support helps new businesses establish themselves with confidence and contribute to Melton’s growing independent business community.
S.M.A.R.T. Scheme Security
Melton BID has invested in the S.M.A.R.T. Scheme to help improve communication, security and real-time information sharing across the town centre.
In 2025, this investment helped membership grow to more than 250 members, supported by a network of over 170 retail radios.
The scheme helps businesses stay connected, share updates quickly and work together to respond to issues such as shoplifting and anti-social behaviour.
BID ‘In Bloom’ buckets scheme
Melton BID’s ‘In Bloom’ buckets scheme brings floral colour and vibrancy to local businesses across the town centre.
The initiative helps brighten shopfronts, improve the street scene and create a more welcoming environment for visitors, residents and businesses.
It also contributed to Melton’s ‘In Bloom’ Gold award in 2024, supporting wider efforts to make the town centre more attractive and well cared for.
Resus ready town
Melton BID has supported Melton becoming a Resus Ready Town, helping to improve access to lifesaving equipment across the town centre.
Seven new defibrillators have been installed across town, making emergency support more accessible for businesses, residents and visitors.
As part of this work, the Burton Street phone box has also been restored and transformed into a lifesaving hub.
Great Big Green Week
An annual campaign championing sustainability and encouraging businesses, residents and visitors to support a greener Melton.
